P.V. Sindhu continued her stunning form to win her maiden India Open Super Series title in New Delhi. Sindhu beat reigning Olympic and World Champion Carolina Marin of Spain in straight games 21-19 21-16 to lift the title.
In a repeat of the Rio 2016 Olympics final, Sindhu and Marin started the match with little to choose between them in the first game. Trailing 18-19 Sindhu showed great tenacity to win three straight points to pocket the first game. In the second game Sindhu lead from the start and won easily 21-16 to the delight of the home crowd.
Sindhu had a fantastic tournament where she beat World No. 4 Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in the semi-finals and compatriot Saina Nehwal in the quarter finals. This was second super series title for Sindhu after she won the China Open in 2016. With this win Sindhu is expected to become World no. 2 in the rankings to be released next week.
